What is Math-Power?

Math-Power is a supplementary mathematics program which focuses on developing skill and understanding of math calculations and concepts from counting through calculus.

Objectives:

• Development of each students math skills to its full potential
• Not overwhelm students with long lessons
• Advance each student with small incremental steps
• Pace each student individually for optimal learning
• Develop good study habits over time
• Develop strong calculation skills
• Prepare a student for more difficult thinking tasks
• Build student confidence in every way possible

Math-Power integrates these precepts:

• Optimal learning takes place in the first 20 minutes of any study session.
• Daily study sessions promote long term memory.
• Learned 'facts' create accuracy and speed.
• Accuracy and speed build confidence.
• Balance of review and new material maintains comfort.
• Confidence and comfort bring success.
• Enjoyment comes with success.
• All students can learn if given the right work at the right pace.

Curriculum

The curriculum uses specially formulated packets of material that include (1) instructional sheets, (2) review problems, (3) new concepts and (4) answer keys.

1. The instructional sheets are carefully prepared instructions of each new math concept.
2. The review problems are designed to reinforce the previously learned material through incorporation of short reviews.
3. The new concepts are carefully explained to ensure easy learning.
4. The answer keys are provided for ease of correction.

The packets are to be completed manually without the use of a computer or a calculator. This method allows students to fully grasp each concept. They are designed to require no more than 20 minutes to complete.

Math-Power provides any needed repetition through three versions of each packet. Consequently, students practice without feeling they are doing the 'same old stuff'.
